From Iceland to New York, international teachers have traveled from far & wide this week to attend the Cambridge IGCSE Art course hosted at Highlands in October 2018! Sheryl Wildsmith gave a fresh insight into the standards required in order to gain this Art Qualification and presented all sorts of incredible examples. All teachers came away feeling inspired & ready to take shared ideas back into the classroom.
Speak Art is an amazing way to capture the imagination of our students at Highlands. We call the subject Speak Art as we believe expressing ourselves vocally goes hand in hand with creating artwork; talking about different artists, what interests us, what catches our eye…In this way, Speak Art naturally develops our students’ English language. In a world so preoccupied with instant digital gratification, Fine Art is needed more than ever! The ability to not just see but to look! The ability to draw & paint are key components of the Cambridge Curriculum. We try to give our students as much confidence & support with this as possible. In Speak Art, we focus on a variety of themes, ranging from observational drawing to more conceptual subject matter. We believe at Highlands that a wholesome pedagogy develops the whole child. Semper Altius!
