The Highlands House System is a traditional feature of British schools and is similar to the college system at universities. The famous Bishop Cotton School, founded on 28 July 1859, was one of the first schools in the world to introduce and implement the idea of the house system, as a way of organising games and sport in schools as part of their daily co-curricular activities.
To foster a sense of belonging and pride in Highlands School Barcelona, strengthening unity and team spirit among pupils and providing lasting motivation throughout their time at school.
In this way, each pupil and their family develop a deep bond with their House and come to see it as a second family, as they will belong to it for their whole time at school.

Our Highlands House System operates as a competition between houses throughout the school year. Points are awarded or deducted for each house’s activities, leading to a winning house being designated at the end of the school year. All types of activities are assessed, ranging from attitude, punctuality, respect, and obedience to students’ academic achievement, among others.
The House System is divided into four houses, representing the four patron saints of the United Kingdom.
Our pupils created the crest, flag, motto, values and song of each house, making the project their own from the very start.
